The Tribeca Film Festival
Iconic film actor (and all-around iconic New Yorker) Robert De Niro co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival with producer Jane Rosenthal and her husband, Craig M. Hatkoff, in 2002—right on the heels of the September 11th terrorist attacks that convulsed the Tribeca neighborhood. It’s been among the most significant showcases for independent film in the world ever since.
This year’s Tribeca Film Festival takes place from Wednesday, April 24th through Sunday, May 5th. The venues include the Tribeca Festival Hub at Spring Studios (50 Varick Street) as well as the Regal Battery cinema, Cinépolis Chelsea, SVA Theatre, and the Beacon Theatre.
Highlights of the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival

Along with what’s sure to be a rich feast of independent cinema from all around the world, this 19th annual Tribeca Film Festival will feature observances of two very special celluloid milestones: There’ll be screenings marking the 35th anniversary of the immortal mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap and the 25th anniversary of a seminal Generation X reference point, Reality Bites.
On hand for the Spinal Tap proceedings will be director Rob Reiner as well as his co-writers and actors Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer. Following the screening of this never-gets-old heavy-metal saga, there’ll be a musical performance—sure to be an unmissable moment—and a Q&A.
The Reality Bites screening will also come followed up by a conversation with director/actor Ben Stiller and his co-stars Ethan Hawke, Winona Ryder, Steve Zahn, and Janeane Garofalo.
