Film Works Alfresco @ Inwood Hill Park
Enjoy free outdoor movies this summer at Inwood Hill Park at the very top of Manhattan Island during a getaway at the Edge Hotel!
Begun in 2017, Film Works Alfresco has become quite the weekly summertime entertainment tradition in Upper Manhattan, and it’s yours to enjoy as a guest of ours at our boutique Washington Heights hotel.
Film Works Alfresco at Inwood Hill Park
Presented by Inwood Art Works, Film Works Alfresco is the only English- and Spanish-language free outdoor film series in New York City. The program strives to bring both “independent and popular films with local relevance that culturally resonate with the Northern Manhattan community,” as the website explains.
The movies light up Gaelic Field in Inwood Hill Park—within a half-hour of the Edge Hotel—every Monday evening, as long as the weather cooperates, kicking off at dusk after some live pre-show entertainment from local musicians and other performers.
Upcoming Film Works Alfresco screenings at Gaelic Field include Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs on July 15th at 7:30 PM; the smash 2018 hit Crazy Rich Asians on July 22nd at 7:15 PM; and the Spanish animated film Un Gallo con Muchos Huevos (Little Rooster’s Egg-cellent Adventure), with English subtitles, on July 29th at 6:30 PM.
Among next month’s offerings, meanwhile, are the Penny Marshall-directed modern classic A League of Their Own on August 5th at 6 PM; the animated smash Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse on August 12th at 7 PM; and the 2014 animated film El Libro de la Vida(The Book of Life) on August 19th at 6:30 PM.
Movie Musicals at the Morris-Jumel Mansion
A recently launched companion series under the Film Works Alfresco mantle brings New York City movie musicals to the Morris-Jumel Mansion—Manhattan’s oldest standing building, mere blocks from the Edge Hotel—one Friday a month from June through September.
This Morris-Jumel Mansion series will be presenting the 1992 Disney musical Newsies, starring a young Christian Bale, on July 12th at 8:30 PM and The Greatest Showman, featuring Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum, on August 23rd at 8 PM.
