Hands on History
Ready for baseball season? We are too! Our beloved New York Yankees’ home opener is on April 4th, 2016, against the Astros. Just a short drive or train ride from our Washington Heights hotel, catching a game at the famous Yankee stadium is a must do New York City activity! For baseball and history fans alike, check out the Hands on History experience. The Hands on History experience gives fans the opportunity to connect with history through old game bats, jerseys, and baseballs and World Series rings from Yankee legends past and present. The experience takes place within the museum section of the stadium. Each session begins ninety minutes before the gates open to the public on game day. Enjoy entertaining stories during the pregame experience, which is led by a museum curator. Some of the featured artifacts include Babe Ruth’s bat, Mickey Mantle’s bat, Derek Jeter’s jersey from his 3,000th hit game and World Series Trophies, to name a few. Tickets for this experience is sold on a first-come, first-served basis so if you are a super fan come early to get your tickets!
Did you know? During their final season at Hilltop Park in Washington Heights in 1912, the Yankees debuted their first pinstripe uniforms. Those pinstripes were actually black unlike today’s navy pinstripes. The black pinstripes only lasted one season and have been navy since 1915.
